Over the past four years, we have been able to work together to make progress in securing a better future for our City.

Look at what WE have done.....

  • Pushed for and supported televised meetings for City Council, Board of Zoning Appeals, Planning Commission and Design Development Review Committee

  • Established term limits for boards to allow more citizens to become involved

  • Started at-large open house meetings to allow more public input on city activities

  • Focused more funding on basic services (fire, police, and public works)

  • Strong advocate for the redevelopment of the North Columbia region

  • Pushed for a retention plan within the  public safety departments

  • Simplified the permitting process for citizens

  • Created a business spotlight program

  • Implemented a Mentor/Protégé program

  • Supported a minority subcontractor outreach program

  • Increased funding of historic African American projects, such as the Renaissance Foundation and Chappelle Auditorium at Allen University

  • Supported Columbia Urban League's summer program

  • Supported the creation of a Gang Task Force

  • Made sure CANDO neighborhood grants stayed in the budget

  • Supported the Office of Business Opportunities through funding requests and personal time in an effort to increase the number of minority-owned businesses

  • Increased funding of the museums and cultural arts

  • Created a marketing committee and plan for the city to sell itself locally and globally

  • Funded and completed renovations to parks such as Greenview, Lorick, and Valencia

  • Supported the creation of affordable housing projects throughout the city - Arsenal Hill, Village at River's Edge and Belmont (Randall street)

  • Supported infrastructure funding needs of Benedict College's new stadium and two Hope VI projects by the Housing Authority

  • Supported the funding of North Main Plaza II

  • Funded the Monteith School restoration project

  • Supported the growth of the Safety Around Schools program

  • Approved Traffic Calming Devices where needed to create safer neighborhoods

  • Helped fund and implement Olympia, Elmwood Park and University Hill neighborhood lighting

  • Supported open budget discussions with citizens

  • Supported the Five Points, Main Street and Two Notch Road streetscapes

  • Supporter of the interim measures for neighborhood protection

  • Voted against every tax increase as well as against raising water and sewer rates

  • Advocate for more accountability in financial reporting to the citizens
